Creating a Personal Visual Algorithm

Filip Van Rijsselberge develops multimedia scrolls in which printmaking, painting, digital image manipulation, photography and found images come together.

His work explores how continuous image flows shape contemporary consciousness, collective memory and our perception of reality. Rather than following the logic of digital platforms, he creates a personal visual algorithm: an associative visual language in which images are collected, displaced, layered and reconfigured into new visual constellations.

The works are created on Chinese rice paper and mounted on panel through marouflage. In this way, he connects the physical sensitivity of paper, ink and printmaking with the speed, instability and multiplicity of contemporary images.

Creating a Personal Visual Algorithm is currently being further developed as a Studio Presentation 2026 from his studio in Zottegem, Belgium.
